Homework

At Hafs Academy, we believe that homework plays a key role in reinforcing and expanding subject knowledge. It serves to consolidate what students have learned in class, preparing them for exams and fostering a love for learning. Homework helps develop time management skills and encourages independent study.

We use Google Classroom to set, track, and monitor homework assignments, replacing the need for traditional student planners. Each student has a personal login, making it easy for them to access and understand their assignments.

The amount of homework assigned each day is flexible, but generally follows these guidelines:

  • Years 7 and 8: 50 to 60 minutes per evening (e.g. 2 tasks of 25-30 minutes each)
  • Year 9 and 10: 70 to 90 minutes per evening (e.g. 2 tasks of 35-45 minutes each)
  • Year 11: 100 to 120 minutes per evening (e.g. 2 tasks of 50-60 minutes each)
  • Sixth Form (Years 12 and 13): 2 to 3 hours per school day (including independent study)

Some days, the total time required may be less than these amounts, but it is rare for homework to exceed the above guidelines. Homework will always have at least two school days before the due date, allowing students time to manage their workload and seek assistance if needed.
