Transition into Year 7
Message from the Principal
At Hafs Academy, we are guided by the principles of Islam in our mission to nurture excellence in every student. Our focus is on instilling values such as ambition, determination, respect, and most importantly, taqwa (consciousness of Allah).
We are committed to helping our students aim high, excel academically, and develop their character in line with the teachings of Islam. We strive to make you proud of your son’s achievements, both in his learning and his adherence to Islamic values.
This page serves to provide the key information you need to support your son during his time at Hafs Academy and highlights how we can work together to nurture his potential in both deen and dunya.
Jazakum Allahu Khairan for choosing Hafs Academy. We look forward to working with you and supporting your son on this important journey.

Ethos and Values
Our motto is ‘Striving for excellence in deen and dunya’, and we set high standards with clear expectations rooted in Islamic values. We focus on encouragement and accountability, guided by discipline that aligns with the teachings of Islam. Staff, students, and parents work together to uphold these high standards, ensuring that striving for excellence means:
- Best efforts in learning and character
- Punctuality and commitment to salah and studies
- Exemplary behaviour, attitude, and respect
- Adherence to Islamic dress code
- Positive contributions to the academy and community
Together, we aim to nurture individuals who excel academically, spiritually, and morally.
Here’s an updated version for Hafs Academy, reflecting Islamic values and its ethos as an Islamic boys’ school:
Values
Ambition: Striving for excellence in deen and dunya
We show ambition when we:
- Set high expectations for ourselves in academics, character, and faith
- Seek knowledge to strengthen our connection with Allah and benefit others
- Challenge ourselves to grow spiritually and intellectually
- Broaden our understanding of the world through the lens of Islam
- Strive to become the best versions of ourselves as Muslims
Respect: Upholding Islamic manners in our interactions
We show respect when we:
- Value and celebrate the diversity of Allah’s creation
- Demonstrate akhlaq (good manners) in all our actions
- Show kindness, compassion, and empathy toward others
- Take care of our environment as an amanah (trust) from Allah
Determination: Overcoming challenges with patience and perseverance
We show determination when we:
- Continuously strive for self-improvement, guided by Islamic principles
- Seek guidance from Allah and those with knowledge when faced with difficulties
- Learn from our experiences and turn mistakes into opportunities for growth
- Persevere in the face of challenges, trusting in Allah’s plan
- Remain steadfast in our pursuit of success in both this world and the Hereafter
Curriculum
At Hafs Academy, our Year 7 curriculum is designed to provide a holistic education that balances academic excellence with Islamic values. The curriculum includes the following subjects across the fortnightly timetable:
- Hifzul Quran
- Islamic Studies
- Fiqh
- Arabic Language
- English
- Mathematics
- Science
- Geography
- History
- Religious Education (RE)
- Physical Education (PE)

Each student will receive a copy of their timetable in September. Students should copy this into their journal in pencil. Parents and carers are encouraged to support their child in organising themselves for the following day, ensuring they have the correct books, equipment, and uniform.
This structure ensures that students not only excel academically but also grow spiritually, learning to integrate Islamic principles into their daily lives.

Uniform
At Hafs Academy, students are expected to take pride in their uniform and appearance, reflecting the dignity and values of an Islamic school. Maintaining a smart and modest appearance creates a positive first impression and demonstrates respect for oneself and the Academy.
Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their appearance by:
- Upholding the Academy’s uniform policy with care and consistency
- Adhering to Islamic guidelines for modesty and presentation
- Striving for excellence in maintaining the highest standards at all times
This commitment helps foster a sense of discipline, respect, and unity within the Hafs Academy community.
Attendance and Punctuality
At Hafs Academy, regular attendance and punctuality are essential for academic success and personal development. Students are reminded that time is an amanah (trust) from Allah, and they should strive to use it productively.

The Respect Points system helps reinforce good behaviour, academic effort, and adherence to Islamic values such as kindness, honesty, and diligence.
Students are encouraged to strive for excellence in both their character and actions, knowing that their efforts will be acknowledged and rewarded.

Medical Information
Illness and Accidents
If your child is too ill to attend Hafs Academy, it is advised that they remain at home to rest and recover. However, if the illness lasts longer than two days, we expect your child to begin completing work on Google Classroom once they start feeling better, insha’Allah.
If your child becomes ill during a lesson and the teacher feels that immediate medical attention is necessary, they will be sent to an Academy First Aider. Parents and carers will be contacted if needed. In more serious cases, where hospital attention is required, the Academy will contact parents/carers, who will be expected to accompany their child to the hospital. Students are not permitted to contact home directly unless asked by the Academy First Aider.
Medical Information
It is essential that you provide the Academy with information about any medical conditions your child may have, including asthma, allergies, or other chronic conditions. The Academy also needs to be informed of any special measures required, such as dietary restrictions, pre-activity precautions, or medication your child may need to carry.
If your child is registered with a medical condition like asthma or an allergy, they will not be allowed to attend an Academy trip without their inhaler, EpiPen, or other necessary medication. Please ensure the Academy is immediately informed of any new medical investigations or health concerns regarding your child’s wellbeing.
All medical information provided to the Academy will be treated confidentially, insha’Allah.
The Academy has a strict policy: no medication will be administered, either orally or externally, without written permission from the parent or carer. All medication must be handed to the Academy First Aider, clearly labelled. It is essential that we have up-to-date contact details for emergencies.
Student Support
At Hafs Academy, we are committed to providing a supportive environment for all students, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEN) or English as an Additional Language (EAL). We recognise the importance of addressing each child’s individual learning needs in accordance with Islamic principles of care, fairness, and respect.
To ensure every student thrives, Hafs Academy offers tailored support strategies, personalised intervention programmes, and a collaborative approach between teachers, parents, and external agencies. We work closely with local services to provide comprehensive assistance to both our SEN and EAL students, ensuring they receive the best support available.
Our SEN and EAL departments are dedicated to providing personalised learning experiences, enabling students to succeed academically while developing their skills and confidence in both their faith and studies.

Complaints
We acknowledge that parents/carers may, from time to time, have normal and legitimate concerns about the progress, achievement, behaviour, or welfare of their child. Parents/carers are encouraged to make these concerns known to staff so they can be addressed in partnership with the Academy.
In most cases, we would hope to be able to resolve a complaint informally. A concern or complaint may be raised with any member of staff, but in the first instance, this would usually be your child’s form tutor or Head of Year. They will try to resolve the matter or refer you to the appropriate person.
If the complaint cannot be resolved, or if you are not satisfied, you will be advised to make a formal complaint, in writing, to the Principal, Ms. Jubair, by completing the online form available or by writing to her at Hafs Academy, Maryland Industrial Estate, 26 Maryland Rd, London E15 1JW.
A full copy of the Complaints Policy is available upon request at reception.
Severe Weather Procedures
In the event of severe weather, the decision to close the academy rests with the Principal. A message will be placed on the academy’s website, and a text message will be sent to inform parents/carers of the closure.
